Have you had a chance to experience the amazing effects of cupping yet? In addition to decreasing trigger points in muscles, cupping does the following: Decreases pain • Promotes of healing • Improves bloodflow • Improves range of motion • Manipulates dermal/subdermal connective tissue • Relaxes muscles
We use comfortable RockPod silicone Cups. (see pictures below).
What is it? “Cupping therapy” is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People use Cupping for many purposes, mainly to decrease tightness in muscles. Cupping decreases pain, inflammation, improves blood flow, and lymphatic stagnation. After cupping patients feel more relaxed and have a better sense of well-being. It manipulates the subdermal connective tissue and pulls toxins out of the muscle by creating a decompression suction. It also increases range of motion in the joints surrounding the loosened muscles.
In the East, the Chinese have been practicing the art of cupping for at least three thousand years. An old Chinese medical maxim states, “Where there’s stagnation, there will be pain. Remove the stagnation, and you remove the pain.”
A lot of people ask: What are the Red Marks? Since cupping uses decompression as the means of relaxing the muscle, there is a possible histamine/ detoxification response. Many people believe that the red marks that are often seen after receiving cupping are bruises. This is actually not the case. When suction is applied, some people have what is called a histamine response, where a redness appears on the tissue. It is part of the natural healing response of the body. The coloration disappears within hours to a couple days of receiving cupping. As a general rule, the more coloration after a session, the more stagnation and detoxification is occurring. If you do not want these detoxification marks, we can do what is called “flash cupping” where the cups are left on for about 20 seconds. Flash cupping still reduces muscle tension, stagnation, and increases lymphatic flow.
